Hi, I’m Rhys Ludlow and welcome to NeoVegetarian.
NeoVegetarian is all about making the transition to a healthier more plant-based diet.
Whether you’re going whole-food vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian or just want to get more veggies in your diet. My goal is to help to make the most of that change. No expectations of vegan perfection here. Diets are personal decisions and I want NeoVegetarian to be a source of information and inspiration.
I’ll share a spectrum of carnivore-tempting recipes from whole food vegan & vegetarian to mock-meat cookery and even some low-meat recipes!
We’ll cover meal planning and preparation, how to use the latest in fact-based nutrition, and we’ll investigate best-in-class products and ingredients including tastings with a panel of food critics. We’ll also meet plant-based restaurateurs and food producers who are redefining food for a plant-centric future.
Who am I? I’m not a dietician or a chef. For the past 30 years, I’ve been making training & marketing videos. As a producer, my expertise is researching, & interviewing subject-matter-experts on a variety of topics to create informational and (hopefully) memorable videos.
When my own health concerns caused me to re-evaluate my diet, I was surprised at how overwhelmingly the preponderance of current evidence favors eating way more plants and many less animal products, if any.
That was not the news I wanted to hear!
Like most people, my entire relationship with food had nearly always included animal products. Aside from being one of life’s most basic necessities (or maybe because it is), the food I’d eaten is part of my dearest memories. My mom’s beef bourguignon, my grandma’s meaty pasta sauce she learned from her Italian neighbor, the chicken wings I had with my kids. And all my favorite restaurants.
But I knew I had to change my diet. So I went online and mostly what I found was a lot of disinformation and a lot of absolutism (for whatever plan was being espoused)
Change is hard. Especially long-term change. And It’s a statistical near-certainty that anyone (especially me) won’t stick to an elimination diet. And going from what I had been eating to a whole-food vegan diet would have been the mother of all elimination diets.
Plus most people I know who are long-time vegans first gave up red meat, then chicken etc. It was a progression.
So I started researching how to best transition to a healthier more plant-based diet – in a way that was going to work for me. And what do I do when I research? I make videos.
So maybe like me, you are looking to be healthier in the long run.
Perhaps, like me, you aren’t ready to declare that you’ll NEVER eat certain foods.
Perhaps like me, you have extra pounds to lose.
So join me and together let’s explore some new delicious healthier plant-centric foods that we can form NEW memories around. And in the process, we can kill fewer animals and they can kill fewer of us. I see it as a win-win.
We aren’t officially launching until February. Feel free to leave me a comment or suggestion on social media or in the comments below.
If you want to stay connected as I shoot the first videos in California, Hawaii & China, sign up for my newsletter and I’ll share some of the process AND I’ll send you 5 mock-meat Sichuan recipes I adapted after my last trip to China.
