Which Veggie Turkey Roast is best?
To find out, a panel of four judges tastes four different Veggie Turkey Roasts.
This was a blind taste test – the judges did not know which roast was which (or even which of the many veggie turkey roasts were included)
All the roasts were cooked according to package directions. And they were timed to emerge from the oven at about the same time. None of the products were served with gravy to better get to the “meat” of the issue.
We tested four popular veggie turkey roasts.
A. Was the Tofurkey Veggie Roast with wild rice stuffing (this is considered the original)
B. Was the Field Roast Celebration Roast with Traditional bread stuffing and mushroom gravy
C. Was Trader Joe’s Breaded Turkey-less Stuffed Roast with Gravy
D. Was the Gardein Holiday Roast stuffed with cranberry and wild rice.
My apologies to the folks at Gardein for often mispronouncing it “jardein” (like a jar) instead of Gardein (like a garden).
The Veggie Turkey Roasts were judged for overall appeal, texture, presentation and how much they taste like turkey.
Though four is a statistically insignificant sample size, the discussion about the qualities of each veggie turkey roast provides detailed insights.
Sort of a let’s talk “vegan turkey” discussion.
The veggie turkey roasts were judged on taste, texture, and appearance, as well as how identical to real turkey they seemed.
The same panel also tasted 8 different plant-based milks. That video should be ready soon so be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss that.
